Born on February 17th, 1953, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Joyce was the youngest among six siblings born to Eliga and Leola Carter. From her parents, she inherited a profound respect for learning, a value she embraced wholeheartedly throughout her lifetime.
After earning a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Joyce dedicated more than three decades of service to the University of Texas Health Harris County Psychiatric Center. There, she distinguished herself in leadership roles within the Medical Records and Risk and Compliance Departments, leaving an indelible mark on the institution.
Joyce's unwavering commitment to education, faith, and community service was evident through her involvement in the Church of Christ and her dedication to her family and work. In her memory, the Joyce Ann Carter-Smith Scholarship Fund aims to provide high school, college and postgraduate students with the financial support needed to attend school, continuing Joyce's mission of fostering educational opportunities for future generations.
Scholarship Details
PURPOSE
The Joyce Ann Carter-Smith Scholarship Fund offers financial assistance to deserving individuals who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements, exhibit financial need, and display a strong dedication to community service. We intend to provide scholarships to high school, college, and postgraduate students.
ELIGIBILITY
The scholarship is open to high school, college and postgraduate students who meet the following criteria:
